Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a leading global public health challenge that must be tackled. Unchecked, it is projected to be responsible for or contribute to nearly 10 million deaths per year by 2050.

disAMR is working on many fronts to align the science, capital, and policy needed to reshape market dynamics and create incentives that will spur the development of a range of solutions to address the AMR crisis.

Understanding AMR – Past, Present, and Future

From the earliest moments of the antimicrobial revolution, microbes evolved resistance to the drugs meant to stop them. At first new drugs were developed fast enough to thwart even resistant organisms. But the spread of antimicrobial resistance today has outpaced the development of new therapies. This gap in antibiotic discovery is not due to a failure of scientific imagination. It is instead due to a combination of factors spanning biology, chemistry, clinical development, stewardship, and economics. disAMR explores these factors to reveal both roadblocks and opportunities.
